OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Based in Wajir county, Kenya, our nine-member board of trustees represent a spectrum of community stakeholders, including head of a local bank, a school principal, a community health worker, and a business owner. As required in our board’s by-laws, they meet every quarter to provide close oversight of our organization’s management and activities. We honor their contributions as an integral part of our work to advance the rights and opportunities of marginalized and vulnerable members of our society.

ENG. HAJIR NUR MAALIM

GCCE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, CHAIRPERSON

Over the last 20 years, his skills in strategic development, resource mobilization, research & evaluation, high quality writing in the fields of Social Accountability, Human Rights and Community development have enabled him to significantly contribute to interventions geared towards sustainable development in Africa and beyond.

Eng Hajir is currently Country Director and technical advisor of Action Centre La Faim (ACF) Yemen, where he is managing the organisation and programmes in that country. During his free time, he enjoys working with young people by empowering and strengthening their potential in leadership and career development. He holds a Master’s Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in civil and structural engineering from Moi University, Kenya.

MRS. ZEYTUN SANEY ADAN

GCCE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MEMBER

Mrs. Zeytun is a passionate and dynamic senior consultant with Puwani Association of Facilitators, Affiliate to VSO Jitolee, Uraia Trust and African Youth Trust. She was involved in capacity building of Project, administrators and fund managers. She has also been involved in enhancement of Guidance and Counseling, ensuring sound financial management as well as ensuring effective curriculum implementation in education sector.

MRS. JAMILA MOHAMED HASSAN

GCCE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MEMBER

Mrs. Jamila (“Mother J” as she is commonly referred) is an accomplished Development Economist. She holds a bachelor degree in Economics from University of Sidney, Australia. She has been instrumental in the development of various strategies in the country notably the Maendleo ya wanawake Positioning Strategy for the Counties. She has a quarterly column with Know Your County Magazine, Mandera County and runs a blog on County Development. She regularly contributes her expertise in development economics and is a featured panelist with Star FM, and other County media houses.

MOHAMED HAJI DAGANE

GCCE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MEMBER

Haji is a strong supporter of youth empowerment and a human rights activist. He is and has been the chair for Juakali Association, Wajir County for over 16 years. He has vast skills in Peace and Conflict, Human Rights, Leadership and governance, Rights Based Programming and Advocacy, Nonprofits Capacity Building, Research and Organizational Development. He holds a bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering (marine) from University of Nairobi, Kenya.

YUSSUF NOOR MUHAMUD

GCCE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MEMBER

Yussuf Noor is a geologist with over 12 years’ experience in geological environments. He has vast expertise in geothermal reservoir engineering, analysis and modeling. Previously, he was the committee member Research and Innovation at Kenya Pipeline Company’s Training Centre. He earned Bachelor and Masters Degree in geology from the University of Nairobi.

ISSACK HASSAN

GCCE PRESIDENT, EX-OFFICIO MEMBER AND BOARD SECRETARY

Hassan (or Proof, as he is commonly known) is a fifth generation Kenyan-Somali, born and raised in Wajir County. He has been Secretary to the board and CEO of GCCE since January 2013. Hassan has over 10 years of experience in human rights, gender, development, and equity initiatives within civil society. He holds a Bcom degree (Finance Option) from the Management University of Africa, Certificate in Governance and Accountability from MS Training Centre for Development Corporation (TCDC) Arusha, Tanzania and he is also a Certified Public Accountant (K). He is currently pursuing his Masters in poverty and Social policy at Moi University and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and Full member of Kenya Institute of Management. Hassan is the head of policies and systems, manages the day-to-day operations of the organization, serves as the professional advisor to the board, recommends appropriate policy issues for the board’s attention, as well as implementing already adopted policies.
